You may or maynot be aware, this isn't just any old summer. This will be my last Lake George/Saratoga endeavor before skipping town to Buffalo. Yes, it's true. I will be leaving the area and heading westward. The Lake is an amazing place but I need to find a place that's a bit more of a music hub. I couldn't live in The City so we chose Buffalo as the place to be.

With that said, it is important to take full advantage of the last bittersweet months here at the Lake. So, to start, I have a few new venues to throw at you including The Ridge Street Coffee Co. in Glens Falls, Jud's Tavern in Lake George, and what we've all been waiting for, the renouned Bailey's in Saratoga. Where, it is said, that Bob Dylan got his start and Don Mclean wrote "American Pie" on a napkin at the bar.
So I'm pretty pumped for these additions. Check the website or www.myspace.com/danainsworth for the particulars.

I would also like to clarify something people have been asking. For the time being, the debut album is no longer available at cdbaby.com. There are a few copies left at www.FreshTracksMusic.com but they will not be restocked. The reason for this is that I will be coming out with a new album at some point this summer. All my resources are going into the recording and printing of this album. So, reprinting of the first album will not continue until this sophmore album debuts. Some may say this is bush league of me but hey, studio time and printing is expensive so shut your mouth when your talking to me!

Aright I'm out. I will keep you posted on the new album soon to be and any new shows that arise at myspace.com and www.danainsworth.com.

What's an Ottoman?

Now that summer '05 has come to an end, I found it in me to share with everybody on this here blog.
The onset of the current academic year is highlighted by my attempt to throw on my responsible hat as I face 30 hour work weeks and getting up before noon. This whole real world thing...I don't think it knows what's coming with Dan Ainsworth in town.

As far as the particulars, I made a move to Glens Falls, New York which is about 20 minutes outside of Saratoga. The music scene isn't half bad and it's a good place to spend a bit of time saving lives as an ER technician. The place I found isn't too bad, seems to be in the middle of everything important...by that I mean it is 57 steps from the bar (a fact that was established the first night in town).

So I've never had to move into an apartment and be responsible for furnishing the entire place. I don't think Martha has me to worry about as far as her career's safety goes. It is quite the trip...buying everything from end tables and bean bags in the living room to microwaves and dust pans in the kitchen. I think I went a week before a garbage bin graced the place. I did my best though and it's getting to be quite the batch-pad as I like to call it. Needless to say I'm Walmart's new best friend.

As for the music, I am gradually working my way into the venues of the area. It's quite the slow and painful process dealing with all the bureaucracy. The higher the management you work with the slower things get done. I certainly miss the doings of my boy Rich back at school who helped me out in that department.
Either way, I will soon have some additional dates. We'll throw them up on the website as they come so don't be a stranger sweet cakes.

Donnie McNabb is on fire
and TO is bringing the house down
so I gots ta be peacin'.

Until next time, let the music hit you right.

Free Beer And Chicken

The Most Diabolical Band Award...

So I'm on my way home from work in Lake George yesterday and I walked passed a bar with a sign reading: "Free Beer and Chicken here tonight, 10-2AM"
I couldn't believe it either, there's no way to stay in business with a claim like that! However, you can't take a chance on missing something as glorious as that, so later on that night I convinced the entourage to stop by Duffy's on the lake to investigate.

"Guys, we can't miss free beer and chicken, if heaven is a place on earth this is surely it," I said.

So gleefully, we rolled into Duffy's bar and grill to fill our bellies with what tastes best--free food and drink. Loud music was blasting from the undersized stage in the back. More noticeably, however, there was no drunk Lake Georgians eating free food OR drink! The feeling of the night went quickly from rather buzzed to soberingly cheated. I knew it was too good to be true.

"Hey Keep, where's our free beer and chicken we came for!" I yelled with the most irritated voice I could manage.

He turned, smiled, and pointed at the three dudes up on stage playing a funkified version of Poisen's "Every Rose Has its Thorn."

"Free Beer and Chicken is playing 'till 2 tonight...for free," he said as he walked by.

Other than that minor upset, the summer is going smoothly. I've been playing quite a bit at all the regular venues as well as a few grad parties here and there. Temperatures are the highest since '49 in the area so its good to be on the lake. We've got a few more shows to add to the list so swing by the website soon.

Drink of the day:
Red Beer - 3parts light beer (Coors or bud light), one part tomato juice.Drops hangovers like a dress on prom night

Movie that I secretly admit to liking:
Hitch -Will Smith just leaves me in stiches...

Rectum? No longer can I go out into the night only to return with no pants or keys. No longer will it be "cool" to talk about the time you woke up in a pool of your own blood having no idea where you are...OR...when the 5-O caught you breaking into your own apartment because you lost your keys in a half-drunken stupier. Yes, sadly these days I leave behind.

The time has come when I turn and say: "This has all been wonderful, but now I must be on my way."

But No Worries Mate...My head is high and I'm ready for bigger and better things.

What's next? Good question. This summer I will return to my one true Adirondack homeland--Lake George, New York--working the usual waiter day job. I'm also looking forward to playing out in the surrounding areas such as Glensfalls, Saratoga Springs, and Albany. Be sure to check my website frequently in order to keep up to speed on the particulars. If you find yourself in any one of those beautiful areas, swing by a show...maybe we'll have a drink or two.

On another note, with college out of the way, I plan on hitting the sketch pad hard in hopes to share some new material soon. After a bit of polishing, I plan to get a few new tunes posted on music.download.com ... But that will require Rich and I finally getting off our asses. We'll keep you posted!

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a bit of pre-graduation bittersweet celebrating to do.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://danainsworth.blogspot.com/2005/05/rectum-damn-near-killed-em.html' title='Rectum? Figured I'd make an entry before Spring Break gets me the hell away from this Tundra Land we call Geneseo, NY. It's been a rough one this year; I'm starting to think Spring just forgot about us all together!

These last couple of weeks have been pretty crazy for me...I apologize for neglecting this journal here you depend on so dearly. To begin, my birthday, last week, fell on a Wednesday. Seeing as how you must celebrate your birthday regardless of what day it's on, and as how you need to go to flip-night on Thursdays at The Vital, the weekend just kinda sneeks up on you all sudden like. It basically turned into a 5 day regala.

The celebrations were bittersweet however because I am realizing how grossly old I am getting. I am a Senior here in college, but I think if I look hard I can see the top of the hill. I don't know about you other Seniors out there, but I think I'm having a twentysomething life crisis...all I have to look forward to now is turning 30! WTF?! Did you know that cavemen only lived to be about 26 years old? I am an old, old man!

Anywho, somewhere in that 5 day blur of a birthday weekend there was a pretty sweet festivity of sorts at The Statesmen, namely a Party for Peace. There were some gnarley bands from all over including Rochester, Buffalo, and Ithaca as well as myself playing...we had some real good music goin on. Whole lotta partying and a whole lotta peacin'....I was worried about the turn out, it being a Thursday night and all, but on this particular Thursday, The Statesmen was the place to be...thanks to all those who came out. I appreciate your support!

Well, I guess it's time to be peacin' myself here. I got a couple of midterm exams this week I gots ta deal with...take care of yourselves and stay waaaaarm!

Best,
Old-Man River

WORD!

It's approximately negative three hundred degrees in the lovely Western New York and, frankly, I'm freezing my ass off. It's my first weekend back at school, my last semester ever, and it's too cold to make it to the bar sans hypothermia. Other things I could complain about include how much my classes suck, how many parking tickets I have already gotten from damn University Police in the last three days, and how my computer has more viruses than Courtney Love in Amsterdam.

Other than that though, it's good to be back in the swing of things. I'm pretty pumped for the shows we're putting together this semester. A few of them aren't official yet so I can't say anything now, but you will be the first to know. Next Saturday, January 29th, I'll be playing at the Statesmen in Geneseo. I expect everyone capable of surviving Yukon Terrirtory temperatures to make it out that night. Other upcoming events may include Geneseo's annual SpringFest, various college shows, and a gig at the renowned Canaseraga Coffee house. Frequent the website for updates and specifics.

Now, I'm going to put on all the coats I can find in this apartment and visit my good friends at the liquor store because I, for one, am no longer going to let mother nature ruin my life!

Peace OUT!
-Dan

Movies of the Month:
* Napoleon Dynamite
* Anchorman (again)
* Garden State

Songs I Can't Get Out of My Head:
* We're Going to be Friends - White Stripes / Napoleon Dynamite sound track
* Whisky Girl - Toby Keith (yea that's what I said)
* Somewhere Only We Know - Keane

Album of the Month:
* Keane - Somewhere Only We Know

So...how are things?

I hope everyone is having happy holidays and no one got coal in their stockings. I'm enjoying myself here in sweet home Canton, NY. It's great stuffing my face and watching TV all day. The James Bond marathon is on and I'm hooked. (BTW, Sean Connery is definitely the best 007 of all...he's so witty, I just don't know how he does it!)

Writing this entry is the first productive thing I've done all week. I'm gonna start doing this "blog" (short for "web-log" because the last 4 letters spell "blog"...it's crazy, I know) to keep everyone up-to-date on all the exciting things going on in my rock star life. Like today, my cat brought in this dead mouse she found outside. She put it down in front of me and started meowing until she was sure I saw it. Then my dog tried putting it in his mouth, but it didn't taste good apparently.

Anywho...I'll be home for the next couple weeks kicking it with the family and home town peeps. Hopefully I'll get the chance to sit down and work on some new stuff provided my A.D.D. doesn't get the best of me. As far as shows go, I will be playing Thursdays at The Glass Onion here in Canton and there might be a show at the Hoot Owl at some point, I'll keep you posted. Well, The Spy Who Loved Me is on TV so I'm peacin' out.

Shaken-not-stirred,
Dan
